On our journey of spiritual growth we can be faced with a few blocks, barriers and obstacles. I will cover 5 common obstacles I have found on my journey of spiritual growth.

Obstacle no.1- Fear

Fear can show up in many guises. Fear is not just a feeling we feel but it is also in our thoughts, words and actions.

You can think, act and feel fearfully when trying to grow spiritually for many different reasons...such as,

  • Fear of making a mistake/ being a failure
  • Fear of the unknown
  • Fear of letting down Spirit/ Divine energy/ God
  • Fear of disappointing others and ourselves
  • Fear of what other people think of us.

there are many more fears and perhaps your one is not listed here. Here is a quote from the spiritual teacher Osho on fear....

" I know fear is natural! But don't get caught by it. Leave it aside. Always remember, the difference between a courageous person and a coward is not that the courageous person has no fear and that the coward has fear- NO. That is not the difference.... Both have fear in the same proportion. The difference is that the courageous person goes in spite of the fear and the coward stops because of the fear. Both have fears! "

Know that you can do all you need to do even though you may feel afraid. When you first make a link with spirit, or when you begin going deeper spiritually and decide to leave the old ways behind you can feel fear.

But as Osho's quote says act in spite of the fear. Don't let fear hold you back, do what your going to do in spite of fear. Do it afraid.

" For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of sound mind"  2 Timothy 1:7

Do you think Divine God Energy wants you to be afraid or fearful? Do you think your spirit guides and helpers want you to be afraid?

Your spiritual growth is a journey to a peaceful and more loving life.

Obstacle 2 - Lack of self worth

I know many of us look to grow spiritually because we have felt lost, broken, confused and many times we knew inside there is more to life than this. So when we begin growing spiritually we realise that we have been like a soft fruit and easily 'bruised' by life's knocks, bumps and set backs.

Maybe you have absorbed all the negative actions and words other people have sent your way?

Maybe you have had few knocks on your journey, a family disagreement, a relationship break up, a job turn sour or even education that didn't work out as you had hoped?

Many events like the ones mentioned above can leave a mark, a dent in our belief of ourselves, our self worth and how we value ourself.

We can begin to think that we are not worthy of a happy and peaceful life. Saying things like " God and Spirit wouldn't want to work with me look at all the mistakes I have made look at all the things I have done wrong." We find it easy to put ourselves down verbally.

" Everybody is a genius, but if you judge a fish by it's ability to climb a tree, it will spend it's whole life believing it is stupid" Albert Einstein

Understand that you are of spiritual value and worth and are loved by Divine Energy and that those in Spirit love you too.

You don't need to find your value and self worth in what other's think, say or believe but in what you think, say and believe. Believe in yourself and spiritually love yourself.

Obstacle 3 - Patience

In the day and age of instant--pretty much everything, it's a hard thing for us to sometimes grasp is patience. Patience is a deeply spiritual and strong principle and the lack of a patient attitude can be a big obstacle to our spiritual growth.

When I do some psychic and spiritual work over the phone I have sometimes found that people try to rush and want instant answer's to complex situations. I am sure as many of you know God and Spirit and all things spiritual move in their own timing.

I can have links with Spirit so strong and fast it leaves me breathless. I have also had links so calm and slow I wondered if anything was coming through. But whether I try to go fast or slow it all happened in divine timing. Trying to stress things to move faster only ever leaves us feeling stressed out and frustrated.

" To everything there is a season, and a time for every matter or purpose"  Ecclesiastes  3:1

"The greatest prayer is patience" Buddha

Obstacle 4 - Trust and letting go

This obstacle is kind of two things in one but both are closely related. We need to learn to let go of certain things to be able to trust. So not trusting and not letting go is an obstacle to spiritual growth.

Trust is easily broken in the physical world and so we must re-learn to trust on a spiritual level. You can't let go of negative thoughts and feelings if you don't trust in God/ Divine and Spirit's love.

To let go of past hurt, you must trust in a better future. Letting go and learning to trust through faith and spiritual practice takes time. It is a process. Be gentle with yourself as you work through the process.

Trust divine, trust yourself, and your inner knowledge and spirit.

" When I let go of what I am, I become what I might be " Lao Tzu

" Let go of yesterday, let today be a new beginning and be the best that you can be and you'll get to where God wants you to be" Joel Osteen

"Doubt your doubts!" Ashley Summers

Obstacle 5 - Enjoyment

What?... I bet your thinking how can enjoyment be an obstacle well like most of these obstacles I have had to hide the meaning as the opposite... misery/ the void of enjoyment is an obstacle.

Not enjoying your journey, finding something unhappy rather then positive in every day life is an obstacle to your spiritual growth.  If your trying to be overly religious or sour faced your being an obstacle to your own growth.

Read my topic called " Insert laughter here" to fully understand the need of joy, happiness and laughter.

Your journey of spiritual growth should allow you to feel happier, more peaceful and loved. Whenever I have been at a mediumship class or demonstration whenever there is laughter in the air Spirit have always come through stronger.

Make a point of enjoying your spiritual growth and journey and make time to laugh and enjoy yourself.

" The thief comes only in order to kill, steal and destroy. I came that they may have life and enjoy life, and have it in abundance ( to the full, until it overflows) John 10:10

I hope you have found these 5 obstacles useful to know and thought on each one of them. Make a note or even print this out and keep it somewhere and read it weekly.

May your journey be blessed. x
